Each year, we have the privilege of spotlighting the exceptional individuals who make our community shine. From organizing events to spreading kindness, these notable neighbours enrich the fabric of Nutana.

Nominee: Rob, Sarah, Ben, & Sophie McPherson

Jolene, a grateful neighbour, recounts her first encounter with the McPherson family’s warmth and generosity during a particularly daunting snowstorm:

“After a big snowstorm during my first winter in Nutana a few years back, I was trying to find the will to go out and shovel when I heard a low hum outside, and suddenly saw someone passing by my window with a snowblower! I grabbed my coat and toque and ran out to thank this kind stranger. Are you an angel?!? I cried out. No, I’m Rob, your neighbour, he said with a grin, gesturing in the direction of his house down the street.

Since then, Rob, his wife Sarah, and teenagers Ben and Sophie have all pitched in numerous times  with snow-blowing, shovelling, and drainage solutions to minimize our troublesome street’s flooding every year. I see them help with other neighbours’ yards throughout the year as well.

Meeting that neighbour with a snowblower was such a powerful affirmation that I had moved into a wonderful neighbourhood full of wonderful people who help each other out. Turns out the McPhersons are an entire family of snow- and ice-removing angels, and I would like them to know their efforts are noticed and appreciated.”
