A note from Jessie at CHEP:
Hello gardeners,
We have more plants! Lynn from Healthy Harvest Greenhouse has generously donated all her leftover seedlings from the greenhouse season. We have these available at Station 20 for pickup, and there are LOTS. There is a good selection this time, including cherry and yellow pear tomatoes, squash (butternut, buttercup and spaghetti), pumpkins, cucumbers, and even some watermelon. Please tell your gardeners to come take these off our hands!
There are also several youth opportunities with Urban Agriculture and Environmental themes that are coming up this summer and fall. Some of these may be of interest to your wider networks if you’d like to pass them along. See below for more details:
- CHEP has received funding to hire an individual that would build a curriculum for our Askiy Urban Agriculture Internship. If you know of anyone looking for work in the area of ag-focused, education/curriculum studies, who is under the age of 30, this could be a great job. The position will start August 1 until June 2018. Folks who are interested can email me, and I will pass along the job description once it’s ready.
- For the parents and guardians out there, Agriculture in the Classroom is running its drop-in Summer Garden Program again this year. I was involved in this program for the first few years that it ran, and it’s a really great way to get youth engaged in food production. The program will run Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 8 different school and community gardens in the city. More information can be found here: http://aitc.sk.ca/news-events/whats-new/summer-garden-program.
- Generating Momentum is a four-day retreat-style camp for Saskatchewan youth ages 18-35 who are passionate about social, environmental, and global justice. This year the camp will be held August 24-27 at Camp Easter Seal in Manitou Lake, Saskatchewan. Registration for the Generating Momentum Camp is now open and only $50 until July 1st. Regular registration is $75 from July 1st to August 15th. Bursaries are available to anyone for whom this cost is prohibitive. The online registration form can be found here: https://generatingmomentumcamp.wordpress.com/register/
That’s all folks!
